The human brain is a complex, multi-regional structure, and most brain organoids do not recapitulate its complexity and connectivity across different brain areas. For example, human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived organoids typically consist of differentiated and functional neurons but lack glial cells and vasculature. Organoids that have spatially organized cell types and regions, called assembloids, allow scientists to gain deeper insights into brain development and function.

In this webinar brought to you by The Scientist, Jimena Andersen and Jens Schwamborn will discuss ways to overcome technical challenges in assembloid generation and their applications for studying brain development, neurodegenerative diseases, and neuroinflammation

Topics to be covered

  • Generating functional cortico-motor assembloids
  • Microglia integration in human midbrain assembloids
